    Welcome to Room 15's classroom website! Class news will be posted here for your convenience. Every Friday, a weekly letter will be posted with information about what the students learned in class during the week. Look under Calendar to view our school calendar and classroom scheduled events. See Handbook for details about our classroom procedures and routines, homework policy, and volunteer guidelines.


  2. School Tours

    Tell a friend! Our Lockhurst school tours will be held on the following Fridays from 8:30-9:30am: January 18th, February 1st, and March 1st. Tours are held for prospective parents and any families interested in applying for charter enrollment for Fall 2018. Come learn more about Lockhurst - a Gold Ribbon School, California Distinguished School, and School for Advanced Studies!


  3. December Awards Assembly

    Our December Awards Assembly is scheduled for Friday, January 18th at 8am on the big yard. A letter will be sent home Friday, January 11th if your child is receiving a Super Scholar, Character, or Effort Award. We hope parents of our award recipients will be able to join us for this special event!

  4. Holiday Party

    Our class Holiday Potluck is scheduled for Friday, December 14th at 11:30pm, with dismissal to follow at 12:42. Please plan to bring a cultural dish or a family favorite. If your family loves it, we will, too! Bring your appetite! All families are welcome to attend.


  5. Holiday Program

    Save the date! Lockhurst's annual Holiday Program is scheduled for Thursday, December 13th. This year's theme is "Lights! Camera! Action! A Winder Production." Kindergarten will perform near the end in both shows which are set for 8:30am and 1:00pm. The show will be approximately 1 hour. Please help your child learn the words to our three songs: "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "We Wish You a Happy Hanukkah," and "This Little Light of Mine." The lyrics to these songs can be found under the Songs tab at the top of this page. There is no special attire required for the program. We will be making T-shirts in class that we will wear over our outfits. We hope you enjoy the show!


  6. November Awards

    Our November Awards Assembly is scheduled for Friday, December 7th at 8am. A note will be sent home on Friday, November 30th, if your child will be receiving a Super Scholar, Character, or Effort Award. Congratulations, Ben, Jonathan, and Madelyn!

  7. Thanksgiving Class Party

    Save the date! We will have a Thanksgiving class party on Friday, November 16th at 11:30. All parents are invited to attend. We will sing a song for you, followed by a craft, Thanksgiving inspired lunch, and dismissal at 12:42. Stay tuned for details from our class room parent...


  8. I'm Going to College Week!

    Lockhurst will celebrate "I'm Going to College Week" during the week of November 5th - November 9th! Talk to your child about your own school experiences and the importance of graduating from high school and college! Students are encouraged to wear college gear throughout the week.


  9. Scholastic Book Fair

    Our Enchanted Forest Book Fair will be held in our school library during the week of November 5th-November 9th. Be sure to check it out!

    The Book Fair will be open to all students with money at recess and lunch. It will also be open to families (students need to be with an adult) after school until 3:00pm.

    Don't miss these special events:

    Tuesday: Dragons and Donuts Family Event 7:30am

    Wednesday: Evening hours/Before PTO meeting 6:30-7:30pm

    Friday: Pixies and Pastries Family Event 7:30am 


  10. Parent-Teacher Conferences

    Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held during the week of November 5-9. Conference is for adults only. Please arrange for childcare. Tuesday's dismissal will be at the usual time of 1:22. Dismissal on Monday 11/5, Wednesday 11/7, Thursday 11/8, and Friday, 11/9 will be at 1:46. All students not picked up punctually will be sent to the office, so conferences may begin promptly. Please be on time for your conference and considerate of others by limiting your conference to the allotted time. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.   11. October Awards

    Our award recipients for the month of October will be announced at the Friday Morning Assembly on Friday, November 2nd at 8am. A note will be sent on Monday, October 29th, if your child will be receiving a Super Scholar, Character, or Effort Award. We hope the parents of award recipients will be able to attend this assembly to celebrate and congratulate your child! Congratulations to Cameron, Nicky, and Varshini!

  12. Halloween Parade and Class Party

    Our annual Halloween Parade will take place on Wednesday, October 31st. Your child may come to school dressed in costume. However, all students must bring a change of clothes to wear after the parade. No weapons, masks, or inappropriate materials may be brought to school. The parade will begin at 8:30am. Our class Halloween party will immediately follow the parade. Details to come from our class room parents.


  13. Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat

    Our PTO sponsored Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat will take place on Saturday, October 27th from 4:30-8:30pm. Come and experience safe and fun trick-or-treating, food, and games with your Lockhurst pals! Families are encouraged to decorate a trunk, donate bags of candy, or help create a class game.   14. Kids Kreation Art Fundraiser

    Kids Kreations fundraiser is a wonderful way to turn your child's art into a keepsake! From stationery to cutting boards to travel mugs, you are sure to find the perfect, personalized gift for any family member or friend. Your child's Kids Kreation order form was sent home on Friday, October 26th in his/her homework envelope. The school is requesting that you return your paper order form on or by the extended deadline Tuesday, October 30th. You may also order online through Wednesday, November 7th.

    Your child painted the blue water. Then, their hands were painted to create the fish and seaweed. Students drew the fish mouths and eyes. Enjoy!


  15. 50th Day of School

    On Friday, October 26th, we will celebrate our 50th Day of Kindergarten! Already? Yes, already! Volunteers will be needed from 8-10:00am. Please return Volunteer Form cut-off by Friday, October 19th. Be sure to bring a camera phone to take pictures for our Class Memory Book. Celebrate with us and dress like you are from the 1950s!


  16. Red Ribbon Week

    During the week of October 22nd-October 26th, our school will pledge to be drug, alcohol, and tobacco free!

    Monday: Put a Cap on Drugs ~ Wear your favorite sports jersey or cap!

    Tuesday: Wear red! ~ Respect yourself! Be drug free!

    Wednesday: Shade Out Drugs ~ Wear your sunglasses!

    Thursday: Turn Your Back On Drugs ~ Wear your clothes backwards!

    Friday: Grades 1-5 Say Drug-Free Pledge at the Friday morning assembly.

    *Please note: Kindergarten will not participate in the Friday morning assembly, as we will be having our 50th Day of School Celebration. Please dress like you are from the 1950s on Friday.


  17. Pumpkin Patch Day

    Calling all volunteers... Please join us on Friday, October 12th to celebrate our second annual Kindergarten rotation, Pumpkin Patch Day! The kinder-kids will enjoy fun and educational math, science, and art activities related to pumpkins from 8:15-10:00am. Your child will be able to choose a pumpkin to take home from our "Pumpkin Patch." We will need volunteers during that time, so we can divvy the kinder-kids into small groups to rotate through the stations. Please return your Volunteer Cut-off no later than Friday, October 5th. Bring a camera to take pictures for our Class Memory Book. Finally, please wear orange or clothes with pumpkins!


  18. September Awards

    Our award recipients for the month of September were announced at the Friday Morning Assembly on Friday, October 5th at 8am. Super Scholar, Character, and Effort awards were given to students from each T-K through 5th grade classroom. Congratulations to Brianna, Elliott, and Van!


  19. Picture Day!

    Say cheese! Fall Picture Day is scheduled for Friday, September 21st. Please be sure to return your Picture Day Order Form in your child's homework envelope on Friday. Each student will take an individual photo, and we will also take a class picture. Don't forget to wear your smile!

    Picture Day Re-takes will be Friday, October 5th for families who are dissatisfied with their child's portrait.

    Make-up Picture Day will be Friday, November 2nd for students who were absent on Picture Day.


  20. Sensory Walk

    Volunteers are requested to join us for our annual Kindergarten Sensory Walk on Friday, September 14th from 8:00 a.m. until recess at 10:00! The kinder-kids will rotate through different stations to learn about our five senses: sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch. We’d love for you to join us so we can divide the children into small groups to rotate through the stations. Please email me at meg2265@lausd.net or return the Sensory Walk tear-off to our bin by Friday, September 7th if you would like to volunteer for this event. Extra forms can be found under Files. Please bring a camera to take pictures of all the fun, so I can be sure to include these great moments in our class memory book!


  21. Back to School Night

    **Save the date and time. Back to School Night will be held Wednesday, August 29th from 6:00-7:30pm. This is an important parent-teacher informational meeting to discuss the Kindergarten curriculum your child will be learning this year and how we can work together to ensure your child is successful in mastering the grade level standards. Please arrange for childcare. Our program will begin at 6:00pm with an introduction of staff. There will be 2 classroom presentations from which you can choose to attend - approximately 6:15-6:45 or 7:00-7:30. I look forward to seeing you!
